We are the bunnies of the House Rabbit Society Sanctuary in AZ. Started in the early 90s in CA, we moved to AZ several years ago
(boy was THAT a hot trip! Whose bright idea was it to move to AZ in August?) Sadly, there are only three of us left from CA: Nicholas,
Shirley and Mookie. Nicky and Shirley are about 8 years old and Mookie is about nine years old. The rest of our current group came
from shelters or rescues here in AZ, New Mexico, CA, UT and Las Vegas. The bunnies living here are considered sanctuary or special
needs rabbits. They are welcomed to the sanctuary so an adoptable rabbit can take their place in a foster home/rescue and hopefully
find a new home. They can be adopted but the person would need to be a very special one who has the experience to take over their
care. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
In addition to donations, the sanctuary is funded by money raised from BunsNRoses - Cruelty Free Bath & Body Products and 18
Carrot Jewelry - to help keep us in hay! You can see those products on the respective tabs of this web site.
Some of our special needs rabbits -
Frankie (left) and Ciara (CC). Like a lot of lop eared
bunnies, Frankie has consistent ear infections. He receives
two medications a day to help keep these in check. CC is
healthy and bonded to Frankie. They are both very sweet and
enjoy getting petted and, for some reason, high places!
Mookie. Mookie is in
sanctuary care because he
is an older gentleman, who
doesn't like people much.
He's healthy for his age
and a sweet heart.
Shirley. Shirley is considered a
"special needs" rabbit only
because she is white with pink
eyes. Unbelievably, some people
are put off by their beautiful
pink, lavender eyes. BWB's (Big
White Bunnies) like Shirley tend
to be very loving and calm and
once people actually meet one,
they fall in love!
Nicholas. Nicky came to
sanctuary care at six months
old because he was ill and the
shelter didn't have the means
to care for him. He is
currently fighting ear
infections and e.cuniculi and
is on several different
medications.
Micah. Before his haircut. Bangs trimmed. Mikey shaved!
Anyway you look at him, he's a major cutie! Mikey is a fairly young
(approximately 2 years old) mixed fuzzy. He doesn't like brushing much so I
shave him several times a year. Mikey loves to run around and dance and tries to
make friends with all the other bunnies. His room has lots of cardboard boxes
because he likes to run thru them like a race car driver! Although he looks big
with his hair, Mikey is only about 3 lbs.
Dino. Dino came to us with
some damage done to his eye.
He cannot see out of it but
still gets around great. Dino
and his girl friend Abby have
free run of the living room
and access to the kitchen
but where do they want to
be? Anywhere but where
they are supposed to be!
Both are very smart about
figuring out how to get thru,
over, around barriers! Dino
is about 3 to 4lbs.
Abby came to us from a hoarding situation in
New Mexico. She was a very sick little girl
but she pulled through like a champ and has
been healthy ever since. She's about 1.5
years old and very, very smart. I haven't
tried to clicker train her yet, but by
watching other bunnies, she's learned some
things all on her own! Abby is about 3 - 4
lbs. Dino and Abby were single rabbits when
they came in but Abby, having come from a
yard with more than 350 rabbits(!) didn’t
want to be alone so she escaped daily from
her enclosure to go sit next to Dino’s
enclosure and eventually they became
buddies This is mom’s favorite kind of
bunny-bonding (do-it-yourself!).

Fletcher came to us from CA when he was six months old, about a year
ago. You can see from his picture that he’s got a severe head tilt. When
he first came to live with us every time he tried to move, he would start
rolling. Fletcher gets around pretty well now and only rolls on occasion.
We would love to try acupuncture with Fletcher - if you’d like to sponsor
Fletcher’s acupuncture, please contact our house-mother at Laurie@rabbit.
org.
Picture coming! Abby is a solid black
lop-eared bunny. About 3 - 4 lbs.
Picture coming! Fletcher is an agouti
colored Flemish Giant. He's small for
his breed, about 11 lbs.
